Delaware's 'Shake it Off' cop talks about viral video

DOVER, Del. (KABC) -- A Delaware police officer who has gotten a lot of online attention for his sassy singalong to Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off" is speaking out about his viral video.

Master Cpl. Jeff Davis, a 19-year veteran with the Dover Police Department, starred in the video, which shows the bald and burly officer in uniform, driving a patrol car while lip-syncing and dancing to the popular song - head rolls and finger-pointing included.

The video was posted to the Dover Police Department's Facebook page on Friday. Since then, department spokesman Cpt. Mark Hoffman said the clip has garnered inquiries from news outlets in Australia, England, Germany and throughout the U.S. Just one day after the video was posted, the clip had 845,000 views on YouTube.

By Wednesday, that number had soared to more than 21 million views, and even Swift commented on the video on Twitter.

Davis said he's enjoying the ride. He even went to New York on Wednesday to appear on "Good Morning America" and other shows.

"The newfound fame is a little much, but it's fun," he said. "Just show that we're human and to put a little light on everything that's been going on in the news now."

The video was made with a GoPro camera as Davis drove through a portion of an empty and closed park.

So how did Davis know all the words to the pop song by heart? The 48-year-old father of four said his 10-year-old daughter is a Taylor Swift fan and plays her songs all the time in the family car.
