LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The maker of Similac Advance says it will begin selling the first mainstream baby formula made without genetically altered ingredients.

A GMO-free version of Similac Sensitive will be next, and if that line goes well, Similac's maker Abbott says more will follow.

There is a growing trend to avoid products with additives, preservatives and genetically modified ingredients.

Most formula sold in the U.S. contains soy and corn. More than 90 percent of those crops are grown from genetically altered seeds.

The GMO-free Similac Advance will be available at Target by the end of May.
