SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two young girls are being called heroes after jumping into action, saving strangers, just before a car caught fire in South Los Angeles early Tuesday.

The incident occurred when a car crashed into a light pole at the intersection of East 95th Street and South Central Avenue around 3:30 a.m.

The two Good Samaritans heard it happen and rushed outside. Despite their age and size, they managed to pull the victims from the wreck before it burst into flames. The two rushed as fast as they could because the car was leaking fluids.

"It started sparking, making sparking sounds as if it was getting ready to blow up, so we just started moving and praying for the best," one of the two Good Samaritans said.

The male driver and a female passenger were transported to a local hospital by LAFD paramedics. The driver suffered burn injuries, and the passenger suffered a broken leg, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Angela Magee.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
