AGOURA HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- Alison Eastwood had a life in show biz, following in the footsteps of her very famous father. But she decided to step into a whole different career: rescuing animals. It's her calling.

After doing it one way or another for years, in 2024, she opened Eastwood Ranch Foundation.

There's a special adoption event there on Valentine's Day weekend. But who says you have to wait until Valentine's Day to find love?

"I know I can make a difference every single day to help an animal," Eastwood said. "I've sort of retired from acting and the Hollywood world, and this is really what I want to do with the rest of my life. I built this building and this place to help animals, specifically shelter animals, and to get them adopted and find a great forever home."

Most of the animals at the ranch come from high-kill shelters, often saved from the euthanasia list. That includes Betsy, a pit bull who's been at the ranch the longest, about a year and a half now. She's described as a solo dog who's sweet, loving, loyal and especially gentle with children.

The ranch can usually house about 40 dogs at a time with two buildings with a separate building just for cats.

"Everyone gets beds. Everyone gets fresh towels. Everyone gets bedding. I mean, it's really important for us to keep them as comfortable and safe and happy as possible because that sets them up for a great adoption," Eastwood explained.

Eastwood Ranch Foundation is having its first on-site adoption event on Saturday, in honor of Valentine's Day. It will include a canine kissing booth.

"We're going to have some puppies that people can take pictures with and get some cute kisses," Eastwood said.

There is another reason for the event as well.

"We're just trying to get the public to come out and see the ranch if they haven't seen it yet," Eastwood said. The goal here is to bring joy to humans and animals alike however they can.

"We have a discounted adoption fee for veterans and then we're also working on pulling some dogs to actually give to veterans on a program for any veterans with PTSD," she said. "And then we have a senior-to-senior program so if we have senior animals, whether they be cats or dogs and you are technically a senior person, you get 50% off your adoption fee. So it's a good way to pair up seniors."

If you're interested in visiting this Saturday for the Valentine's Day "Pawsitively In Love" event, it's happening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Eastwood Ranch Foundation, 28260 Dorothy Drive in Agoura Hills.
