SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A manhunt is underway in Sylmar after an inmate escaped from a prison camp.

Jesse Diaz was being held at Holton Conservation Camp in the 12600 block of Little Tujunga Canyon Road.

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said Diaz disappeared late Tuesday from the camp, where he was serving as an inmate firefighter.

The 24-year-old was assigned to the camp last March after being convicted of evading an officer while driving recklessly.

Diaz is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

If you have any information about Diaz's whereabouts, you're urged to call police.
