PALESTINE, Texas (KABC) -- Video from the body cameras of two Texas police officers show the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of a suspect outside of an Applebee's restaurant on May 31. (WARNING: VIDEO IS GRAPHIC)

"You're a suspect in reference to a theft case. I need you to step out please," Palestine Police Sgt. Gabriel Green said. "Don't act dumb for me. Come on and step out. OK? You're on video."

James Bushey, 47, was accused of stealing alcohol from a nearby Walmart.

As the officers escorted him out of the restaurant, he drew a weapon from his right pocket that appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at the officers.

Green and Officer Kaylyn Griffin opened fire multiple times, killing Bushey.

During the later investigation, the weapon was determined to be a B.B. gun. Both officers were cleared in the shooting.

Proponents of police body cameras say this is the kind of video evidence that shows how effective these devices can be in documenting officer-involved shootings.

Bushey's family says they're devastated by his death and can't understand why he would have acted this way. They say he was a good guy who was just down on his luck. He had recently divorced, been laid from of his job and was battling alcohol abuse.
