Time Warner Cable proposes new offer on Dodgers channel
As opening day approaches, Time Warner Cable is offering TV providers a new deal on SportsNet LA, the channel owned by the Dodgers, in an effort to strike a last-minute deal.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- As opening day approaches, Time Warner Cable is offering TV providers a new deal on SportsNet LA, the channel owned by the Dodgers.

An ongoing dispute between Time Warner and cable providers such as AT&T, DirecTV, COX and Verizon has kept a lot of fans from watching the Dodgers from the comfort of their homes.

Time Warner, which has distribution rights over Dodger games in the area, has been trying to sell SportsNet LA to other TV providers, but they've refused to carry SportsNet LA because they say it costs too much.

The cable provider has already cut the channel's price by 30 percent for one year. But in an effort to strike a last-minute deal, Time Warner came back to the negotiation table and sweetened the deal for the second time in a week.

Meanwhile, Time Warner is facing pressure from fans, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti and Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred to reach an agreement before the season begins.

"If nothing else, let's do it for Vin Scully," Garcetti said. This will be Scully's last season.

A spokeswoman told Eyewitness News that a new offer is on the table, but she refused to elaborate on the price or terms of the latest offer.

If a deal is not made by Monday, Dodgers' opening day will be aired to 1.8 million fans that receive TV service from Time Warner. An additional 3 million fans will likely be shut out for a third straight season.
