ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (KABC) -- The Orange County Toll Roads organization is warning the public about a nationwide "phishing" email scam.
An email is being sent to drivers across the U.S. claiming the recipient owes money for unpaid E-ZPass tolls. The Toll Roads assures the public that the email is not being sent from The Toll Roads, The Transportation Corridor Agencies, E-ZPass or E-ZPass tolling agencies.
The E-ZPass system is used to electronically collect tolls on the East Coast. The FasTrak system is used on the West Coast.
The Toll Roads organization urges recipients not to open or respond to the email if received. The scam is designed to steal money through a variety of methods, including installing malicious software or stealing personal information from computers.
