VERMONT KNOLLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Neighbors, police officers and firefighters worked together to pull a woman out of a burning home in Vermont Knolls Tuesday morning.

The fire started around 1 a.m. in the 800 block of West 74th Street. Neighbors tried to get the woman out, but a washing machine was blocking the back door.

Firefighters arrived at the scene in time to cut the burglar bars off the back window. Then officers who were driving by saw the scene and ran to help pull the woman out to safety.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital after suffering some smoke inhalation. Authorities said she will be fine, but her dog died in the fire.
