LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Watts Bears served up their first free Thanksgiving dinner Sunday to those in need.

The football team, made up of young boys living in housing projects in Watts, are coached by Los Angeles police officers.

The officers said they are trying to teach the boys that there are people even less fortunate than them and it's important to give back to the community.

"We've just been blessed for four years," said Aaron Thompson, an LAPD officer. "Everyone's been looking out for us, giving us things... helping these kids fulfill dreams they are setting out for themselves, and now it's time to give back..."

Officer Thompson said ever since the program started years ago, he has seen a positive change in the kids.
