High-surf dangers linger as SoCal sees respite from El Nino rain

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The Southland is getting a respite from rain on Friday, but high-surf dangers remain along the Southern California coast.

A high-surf warning is in effect for Orange and San Diego county coastal areas until 10 p.m. Friday.

A high-surf advisory is in effect for Los Angeles and Ventura county coasts and the Catalina and Santa Barbara islands until 9 p.m. Friday.

The large waves may be tempting for surfers, but the Department of Public Health warns people to be very careful. The huge swells can cause dangerous conditions for those getting in the water.

Also, because of the recent rain, many beaches can be filled with bacteria, debris and trash especially around discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers.

The high-surf warning and advisory may last longer if more rain falls Friday night and over the weekend.
