Rain causes flooding, damage across Los Angeles County

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Sudden downpours caused flooding for many cities across Los Angeles County as a rain-making system moved across the region.

In La Canada Flintridge, firefighters were called out to help a homeowner who experienced severe flooding.

"Our concerns are where that water goes, of course, and in the city of La Canada Flintridge, there's many places where that water can accumulate because of the topography, for one, and the way the streets are built," said Battalion Chief Carl Flores with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. "Not every city can handle the amount of water that came down all at once."

The storm overwhelmed the draining system at Srinath Samudrala's home, and water filled his yard.

"It was just flooding over. It was just a huge amount of rain and probably in five to 10 minutes, it seemed," Samudrala said.

Heavy rain also proved too intense at Plaza West Covina mall, where water seeped through the roof and leaked inside the mall.

In the Antelope Valley, the rain came down heavy and fast, flooding streets and intersections.

The downpour is the aftermath of former Hurricane Dolores off Baja California.
