Northern California wildfire engulfs 150 structures

WEED, Calif. (KABC) -- A wind-driven fire burning in Northern California has damaged or destroyed at least 150 structures, a saw mill and a church.

The Boles Creek Fire erupted Monday south of Weed, a community of 3,000 people. As of Tuesday night, the fire, which has scorched 375 acres, was 25 percent contained.

"At the peak, essentially the entire town was evacuated," state fire spokesman Robert Foxworthy said.

Firefighters say many of the structures lost are houses. Three firefighters lost their homes in the fire.

No injuries or deaths were reported. Fire crews were being helped by calmer winds and were gaining control of the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
