But for those looking for a career that truly does offer opportunities for satisfaction, both in the office and in one's personal life, Glassdoor has released its ranking of jobs that offer the best work-life balance.

Glassdoor rates work-life balance on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being "very dissatisfied" and 5 "very satisfied." Data is based on employee feedback shared by U.S.-based employees over the past year.

While all the jobs on the list placed highly for their flexibility in pursuing an enriching life away from the job, there was quite a range on average income. Over half the jobs in the Top 10 list a salary of less than $50,000 annually; so while a data scientist's $114,000 might offer ample cash for off-hours adventures, but a ranked substitute teacher's $24,380 salary doesn't leave much for spending money.

To be included in Glassdoor's rankings, the job titles had to have at least 75 work-life balance ratings over the past 12 months, have "work life balance" mentioned as a pro of the job in at least 15 percent of reviews and have at least 200 job openings.
