Autism cases climb despite lack of mercury

(KABC) Some have connected mercury with autism, but the latest information seems to contradict that theory.

State health department researchers found the autism rate in kids rose continuously from 1995 to 2007. The preservative thimerasol has not been used in pediatric vaccines since 2001, though it is used in some flu shots.

Doctors say the study bolsters the argument that thimerosal exposure does not increase autism risk.

The Findings are in the Journal Archives of General Psychiatry.
