Baby 'Boomlet': Births rise in U.S.

(KABC) That's because a "boomlet" means the increase in births may be brief.

Right now, the U.S. is experiencing the largest number of children born in 45 years. Experts say the almost 4.3 billion births in 2006 were mostly due to a bigger population.

Part of that increase includes a growing number of Hispanics -- that accounted for nearly one quarter of all births in this country.

But demographers say it's too early to call it a trend.
