Cold germs left on household items

A new study finds that cold sufferers often leave their germs on TV remotes, salt shakers and other household items, where the germs can actually live for two days or more.

Scientists at the University of Virginia studied the homes of 30 people with colds. Tests showed germs on all three of the salt and pepper shakers tested, and six out of 10 remote controls.

Other germ hot spots were light switches, doorknobs, phones, refrigerator handles and bathroom faucets.
