Top 7 spots to ring in the New Year

SOUTHLAND Jane Monreal reveals the top 7 Citysearch destinations, from Hollywood to Long Beach.

There will be celebrations at Katsuya's three locations, including Hollywood, with an all-access pass to neighboring S Bar.

"I think the great thing about the Katsuya brand - and where we're at now - is that we're able to do a great New Year's party, west to east," said Matt Erickson from Katsuya Hollywood.

Mar Yvette, Citysearch senior editor, said for $200, guests will enjoy specialty cocktails all night long with sushi and other fabulous foods.

"It doesn't get any cooler than this," Yvette said.

For something chic but quaint, Murano is serving a five-course dinner, starting at $85.

"We've got the agnolotti, it's the house made so he's really known for his hand-crafted pastas, and we've got the pancetta on top with the butternut squash; we've got the filet with the truffle butter of course, so very fancy. Also, they do this wonderful smoked salmon with creme fraiche and caviar," Yvette said.

The vibe at Murano is expected to be sexy and festive, according to Sandy Sachs from Murano.

"Last year, we had just a little bit of everything. We had old and young. It was really fun," she said.

For fun Vegas-style, you only need to go as far as Kress.

"[It's] the hottest Hollywood dining, drinking [and] dancing destination ... multi-levels, four levels ... rooftop [and] underground dance club," Yvette said.

The Conga Room reopened at its new location in downtown Los Angeles.

"We've got some new owners, besides Jennifer Lopez and Jimmy Smits," said Brad Gluckstein from the Conga Room. "Baron Davis of the Clippers, Trevor Reese of the Lakers, and Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas. Gluckstein said a lot of dance and good music can be expected at the Conga Room.

"Not just Latin, but a little bit of a global beat as well, and, we're right in the epicenter of Downtown L.A. Live," he said.

Rounding out Citysearch's top 7 destinations for New Year's Eve are Zane's in Hermosa Beach, Universal Citywalk in Universal City and Yard House in Long Beach.

In Orange County, a great New Year's Eve spot is also "The happiest place on earth." Disneyland may be a festive choice. In the Inland Empire, Café Sevilla in Riverside is recommended. Finally, for those in Ventura County, you may enjoy an evening at Mediterraneo in Westlake village.
