Cool Kid Alexis Dunlap hits high notes

CALABASAS, Calif. "It's mostly for helping other people, not for my personal gain ... always for other people," says Alexis. "It makes you feel good and it definitely makes them feel good."

Three years ago, Alexis was told she was going to the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Youth Conference. Since then, the excitement has multiplied many times over.

"Obama, he's great by himself. But it really is history in the making, and I'm really happy to be part of that," says Alexis.

It is her unique qualities that make Alexis stand out to those who know her.

"You see all of the different activities she does, " says Josh Barroll, music director, /*Calabasas High School*/. "She's willing to try anything."

Alexis is a 15-year-old sophomore at Calabasas High School. She says the significance of a trip to our nation's capital is not lost on her youth.

"I know I really appreciate it, for one. I don't know how many other people do. It's such a change and I'm really excited to just witness it," says Alexis.

With leadership skills and musical talent, Alexis is certain to hit all the right notes in her future.
