ADHD drugs can cause kids to hallucinate

January 26, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
A new government study released Monday suggests drugs used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can cause children to hallucinate even when taken properly. ADHD is marked by restlessness, impulsiveness, and distractibility.

Researchers say the drugs can cause psychosis and mania. Some children hallucinated that they saw worms, bugs, or snakes crawling on them.

ADHD affects nearly three to seven percent of children in America.
