San Berdu Co. approves foreclosure plan

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY The board approved a plan to use nearly $23 million in neighborhood stabilization funds to address the high number of vacant and abandoned homes in the county.

Officials say the main objective of the program is to provide financial aid to families who can qualify to purchase vacant or /*foreclosed homes*/.

The program has six goals in mind, ranging from down payment assistance to the rehabilitation of vacant single family properties.

Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt says the high desert area of San Bernardino County has been hit hard by the crisis, where empty homes have become a blight in neighborhoods.

Mitzelfelt is hoping the program will spur more home purchases and keep neighborhoods attractive to home buyers.
