Virus may be cause of prostate cancer

The virus, known to cause leukemia and tumors in animals, was found in 27 percent of human tumors researchers studied.

Viruses have recently been found to cause other cancers, most notably the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer.

Experts hope the findings will lead to better ways to identify prostate tumors and to make drugs or vaccines to treat or even prevent prostate cancer.
