Annenberg School changes its name

LOS ANGELES The university announced Wednesday that the school's name is now the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

USC President Steven Sample says Wallis Annenberg, the daughter of the late billionaire publisher Walter Annenberg, pushed for the change. Her father supported the founding of the school.

Annenberg Dean Ernest Wilson says journalism has been under siege, and the name change will help support the future of the profession.

He says renaming the school shows a commitment to the role public information plays in a democratic society.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
