LOS ANGELES --A record number of students are applying to California State University campuses, even as the school prepares to trim enrollment and tighten admission standards. Cal State received more than 266,000 applications for next fall, which is a 53 percent jump from this time last year.
Community college transfer applications are also up 127 percent.
A $564 million budget cut is forcing CSU to decrease enrollment by 40,000 over the next two years. About 6,000 will be dropped this spring.
