Gov. kills $1 Billion rail stimulus fund

LOS ANGELES The money was supposed to fund projects to improve train safety, speed and capacity of commuter lines in Southern California.

Instead, the governor ordered state officials to seek money for only one project, which is the proposed bullet train between San Francisco and San Diego.

Officials say the governor's decision was intended to increase the state's chances of receiving High Speed Rail money.

California is competing with more than 40 applicants from 23 other states.
