Cops find 2 shooting victims at crash scene

WILMINGTON, Calif. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Umberto Ramirez, was declared dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but later died. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities arrived at the scene at about 7 p.m. to find a truck crashed into a wall in the 500 block of G Street. Two victims were inside, both with gunshot wounds to the chest. Police believe the gunman shot the two victims from the backseat of the truck, and the shooting caused the driver to lose control.

Witnesses said they saw the gunman running from the crash scene.

"He was kind of stunned," said witness Adolfo Morales. Morales said he said saw the gunman running into the alley.

Police said the only description witnesses provided was a Hispanic male, and the motive is unknown.

"We've been up all night trying to solve that piece and put those pieces together," said LAPD Lt. David McGill.

The truck must have been moving at a fairly high rate of speed at the time of the shooting, based on the damage it caused when it crash. A brick wall in front of a residence was in ruins and crushed a parked car. Residents said they are grateful no one else was hurt in the incident.

Authorities need the public's help to track down the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.
