Landslide sends hillside onto Hollywood street

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. Officials said a sprinkler system or broken water line apparently triggered the slide on Los Tilos Road in the Whitley Heights neighborhood at about 5:30 a.m.

Residents said they were awakened by a loud noise.

Linda Chapman, 63, said a crashing sound awoke her and she thought it was car wreck. When she looked outside, she saw a mound of soil and vegetation piled up against a red Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Officials said only the car was damaged.

About 2 feet of soil was covering a section of the residential road blocking access to about a dozen homes. Clean-up crews have temporarily shut down Los Tilos road while they clean up the debris.
