3 wanted for robbing, injuring elderly couple

CAMARILLO, Calif. Police say three men, wearing masks, forced their way into a home on the 500 block of Via Del Cerro Sunday night, Jan. 30.

Police say they threw the 86-year-old husband from his wheelchair onto the ground, and forced his 85-year-old wife to open the couple's safe.

"It's very quiet, everybody looks out for each other, but you just don't ever think about something like that," said Lee Nelson, the victims' neighbor.

The trio of robbers escaped with a significant amount of cash. Investigators would not elaborate, but they say that the victims may have been targeted.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital with head trauma, and his wife suffered moderate injuries. Both are expected to recover.

"They're okay, they're feisty. It saddens me that anyone would have to go through that, but they're going to be fine, I think," said Suzanne Schaub, a neighbor who spoke with the elderly victims.

Detectives warn residents to keep doors locked day and night and to assume that anything can happen anywhere.

The Camarillo Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff's Department are asking anyone with information to contact Ventura police at (805) 477-7000.
