February marks L.A.'s lowest water usage

LOS ANGELES

The city of Los Angeles called for mandatory water conservation nine months ago. Using 2007 as its base year, overall water consumption in Los Angeles is down 20 percent.

Single-family home consumption is down 29.2 percent, multi-family residential is down 11.9 percent, commercial use is down 16.7 percent, industrial use is down 14.8 percent and government use is down 19.1 percent.

February 2010 also marks the 31st consecutive month of reduced water use by single-family residential customers.

The LADWP is the nation's largest municipal utility. It provides service for 1.4 million electric customers and 680,000 water customers in Los Angeles.
