North Hills apartment fire kills 3 small dogs

NORTH HILLS, Calif. Authorities said the fire started in the kitchen of one apartment unit. Two residents of the unit were sleeping at the time the fire began, but /*smoke detectors*/ woke them up.

The residents were able to escape, but three small dogs died in the fire. The man who lived in the apartment suffered second-degree burns when he went back inside the apartment to try and put the fire out on his own.

He and three other people who suffered minor smoke inhalation were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.
