NEW YORK --Danica Patrick says there isn't enough time to make significant changes to her car before the Indianapolis 500, and it "most probably" needs them. IndyCar's most popular driver will start 23rd Sunday, her worst spot ever at Indy, after a frustrating qualifying run last weekend that ended with Patrick criticizing her car's setup. During a whirlwind trip to New York on Tuesday to promote the race, she said: "I don't think it's going to be the perfect car, but I think we can get close."
Patrick drew boos Saturday when her comments were broadcast over the racetrack's public address system. She says she doesn't regret her words, though she concedes she could have been "a little bit more PC."
