Officers found the subject in the walkway of an apartment building. The man armed himself with a fireplace poker and attacked the officers, whereupon officers shot him.
The man was transported to /*Providence Holy Cross Medical Center*/ in Mission Hills in critical condition. He underwent emergency surgery. The man died shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.
The shooting victim was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s.
Officers were not injured in the incident.
The incident was under investigation.
