Gas main break forces evacuations in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. Officials said 32 homes in the area were evacuated after the incident on Water and Lemon streets at 8:11 a.m. Most of the evacuated homes were single-family homes north of Water Street and south of Water Street to Stueckle Avenue.

Crews shut down the gas line by 11 a.m., and residents were able to return to their homes.

Fire authorities said a contractor was working on some sewage and fiber optic lines in the area and accidentally hit the gas line, causing the break.
