Newhall high school girl stabbed in chest

October 6, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
A female student at William S. Hart High School in Newhall stabbed another female student, sending her to the hospital on Wednesday. The stabbing victim was transported to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia with a non-life-threatening injury. She was reportedly in stable condition.

A teacher reportedly witnessed the fight between two 16-year-old girls at lunchtime and broke it up.

"We had an incident where one female student stabbed another female student," said Hart High spokesperson Gail Pinsker. "Right as it was happening a teacher who was canvassing the area did see what was going on and stopped the incident.

"We are not clear right now on the motive behind this incident," said Pinsker. "However, we are confident to say that it was an isolated incident. It was not random, and it was between these two female students only.

"We don't know what the weapon is at this time," said Pinsker. "I would like to say, though, that all of our campuses are, like I said, concerned about the safety of our students and take this very seriously."

The female stabbing suspect was taken in police custody Wednesday.
