Hard-hit IE town braces for next storm

HIGHLAND, Calif. Residents of the hard-hit city of Highland already had their hands full cleaning up after the most recent storm, in which a huge mudflow damaged dozens of houses. They were shoveling mud out of their houses and cleaning up their properties Saturday.

Resident Louie Barrera said he lost three cars and most of his possessions in the pre-Christmas mudslides that sent five feet of mud flowing into his home. He was salvaging what he could and preparing to rebuild.

"We've got to take down all the walls and start from scratch - the carpet, I lost my furniture, I lost everything," he said.

Many residents said they've already dealt with the worst so the upcoming rain in the forecast doesn't worry them.
