James Butts ahead in Inglewood mayoral race

Former Santa Monica Police Chief James Butts appears to have won Inglewood's runoff mayoral election.

Former Santa Monica Police Chief James Butts appears to have defeated incumbent Daniel Tabor in Inglewood's runoff mayoral election.The unofficial tally has Butts leading 56 percent to 44 percent. About 5,600 votes were cast in all.

Tabor, however, is holding out hope he may still win when absentee ballots are counted.

Tabor is a longtime public official, previously serving on the Inglewood City Council.

Butts led the Santa Monica Police Department for 15 years and also served as head of security for Los Angeles International Airport.
