The knitted mesh slip frock was designed by then-fashion student Charlotte Todd who says the dress caught the attention of the future king of England.
"I'd like to think of myself as a royal matchmaker. Because of me sending this dress to St. Andrews, Kate got to wear it in front of the prince and was seen by the prince for the first time in such a revealing dress," Todd said.
The dress cost about $49 to make. It is expected to sell for thousands of dollars when it's put up for auction.
