Having a mother with Alzheimer's disease may increase your risk of developing the illness, tests show.

Researchers studied the tests and scans of more than a dozen people and looked at the brain shrinkage that occurs with the disease.

They found that people who have a mother with Alzheimer's showed one-and-a-half times more brain shrinkage per year than those with a father who had the disease.

The study was published in the journal, Neurology.
