NY zoo closes reptile house after cobra disappears

NEW YORK

The poisonous Egyptian cobra disappeared from an enclosure that's separate from the animal exhibits.

The zoo released a statement saying it's positive the 20-inch-long snake is in an area of the building that's not accessible to the public.

A zoo spokeswoman said cobras do not like open areas.

However, the building remained closed Sunday until zookeepers could locate the snake.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
