Residents evacuated in Riverside standoff

Residents in Riverside County were out of their homes Sunday due to a standoff with an armed suspect and sheriff's deputies.

Residents in an unincorporated area of Riverside County were out of their homes Sunday night, following a standoff with an armed suspect and sheriff's deputies.

It started just after 3 p.m. on the 17000 block of Dalke Lane. A man was passing out religious flyers when he got into an argument with the suspect. Authorities say that the suspect, 51-year-old Gino Salinas, fired a gun at the man, but he was not hit.

Salinas held authorities at bay at his home for several hours, claiming he had a lot of ammunition. He finally surrendered and was booked on assault with a deadly weapon charges.

Deputies are waiting for a warrant to search his home. Residents have been evacuated until the scene is cleared.
