An underground electrical explosion in the San Fernando Valley sent manhole covers flying and buckled a section of a busy street.

The blast occurred Sunday night on Victory Boulevard between Randi Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Granada Hills.

The Department of Water and Power said a transformer malfunction triggered the blast.

Power was out for about an hour, but most of the businesses in the area were already closed.

It caused a minor traffic mess because lanes were blocked off during the investigation.

No injuries were reported.
