Ventura police saw the speeding car in the 200 block of Center Street and Ventura Avenue, and failed to stop for a red light. An officer attempted to initiate a stop, but the driver refused to pull over and attempted to evade police.
The pursuit covered a distance of approximately a half mile, with the suspect exiting the vehicle while it was still moving and fled on foot. The vehicle continued driving and collided into a chain link fence and telephone pole.
After a brief foot pursuit, 28-year-old Rafael Hernandez was taken into custody without further incident. A female passenger in the vehicle was also arrested for being in possession of narcotics.
Hernandez was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Jail for felony evading, resisting arrest and a felony warrant for his arrest.
No one was injured as a result of the pursuit.
