LA teachers criticize new homework policy

LOS ANGELES

Teachers worry that the policy will encourage students to slack off assigned work. They say students who do their homework perform significantly better than those who don't.

The Los Angeles Unified School District made the change, saying students have varying degrees of academic support at home.

The district also said students should not be penalized for missed homework so severely that it prevents them from passing a class.
