'Brigadoon' star Elaine Stewart dies at 81

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.

The "Brigadoon" actress died Monday after a long illness, her agent told the Los Angeles Times.

Stewart, who was born Elsy Steinberg, made her first starring role in the 1953 crime drama "Code Two." She also starred in several other films in the 1950s, including "The Adventures of Hajji Baba," "The Tattered Dress" and "Night Passage."

In the 1970s, Stewart starred in the game shows "Gambit" and "High Rollers."

She is survived by her husband, game show producer Merrill Heatter, and their two children.
