School officials said Cayden Pollard was violating the school's dress code, which bans boys from wearing earrings.
But his mother was outraged.
"If the school would have come to me and said neither boys nor girls could wear earrings, I would have let it go. But the fact that they were discriminating against gender, that, to me, hit a nerve," she said.
The dress code is now being reviewed, and in the meantime, Pollard can wear his stud earring.
