Los Angeles police issued an Amber Alert on Sunday afternoon after they say an armed man forcibly took his 2-year-old son from a Sun Valley residence.

On Sunday night, the man surrendered the child to officers at the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck station. The boy was not harmed.

Police said the estranged father, 25-year-old Ernesto Suarez, showed up to take the boy from the home near New Haven Street and Sunland Boulevard about 12:30 p.m.

"The suspect grabbed the child from the mom and her brother," LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph said. "They tried to stop him and the suspect pointed a gun and fired at least one shot at the mother then fled."
