Marine from Camp Pendleton gets kidney from deceased Marine

SAN DIEGO

Sgt. Jake Chadwick's kidneys began failing shortly after he deployed to Iraq. A potential donor was withdrawn.

But then Marine 2nd Lt. Patrick Wayland died of a heart attack in Florida, and six of his organs were donated, including a kidney that is now in Chadwick's body.

"You know, this kidney is not going to go to waste. It's going to be used well," said Chadwick.

Chadwick went home from the hospital Thursday and will soon begin a new life as a civilian.
