Class critters snatched from Jurupa school

JURUPA, Calif.

Teacher Bonnie Werner keeps a mini-menagerie of snakes, lizards, frogs and spiders for her fifth grade classroom at Troth Street Elementary School.

On Monday, she discovered that a bearded dragon, a spiny-tailed lizard and a tarantula were gone.

She uses the creatures to teach kids about respect for the planet and its nonhuman inhabitants.

The principal said there's a tremendous sense of sadness at the entire school.
