Patrol car flies off PCH in Malibu crash

MALIBU, Calif.

Authorities say the deputies were conducting a patrol check in the area when they were hit from behind on Pacific Coast Highway near Las Tunas Canyon Road at about 1 a.m.

The crash sent the patrol car off PCH and onto the beach about 30 feet below. The patrol car landed upright, with its front end in the sand, and all its doors jammed.

After being extricated, both deputies, identified as 51-year-old Jeffrey Miner and 47-year-old James Millage, were taken to the hospital.

The suspected drunk driver was taken into custody.
