Authorities responded to the 7000 block of Norwalk Boulevard just before noon after someone walked into the Rite Aid and put down a backpack near the cash registers, saying there was a bomb in it.
The suspect then left the scene.
A sheriff's bomb squad removed the backpack blew it up. The backpack was deemed harmless. Police do not believe there was an explosive inside.
The area had been evacuated as a precaution.
Police say they will use surveillance video to track down a suspect.
